Hands up if you use LinkedIn for job hunting. You’re not alone. In fact, according to a study conducted by Kinsta, 122 million people received an interview through LinkedIn. Pretty staggering results!
But is it as easy as clicking around and connecting with potential recruiters or employers? No. But there are ways you can ensure your profile is optimised so you attract the right people to your profile and the right opportunities.
An easy way to do this is by boosting your LinkedIn bio. This is the “about me” section you can edit on your page. But rather than a block of text about your experience, you can snazz it up to make it buzz!
Here’s how to boost your LinkedIn bio
- Start with something interesting, A hook! Perhaps a quote you love, a mantra you use, a fun fact or a short story. Entice the visitor to keep reading
- Use keywords in your bio that will assist in how you appear in search results. For example, if you’re looking for a receptionist job, make sure you include the word receptionist in your bio. Also include any related words such as customer service, phone operation or office manager.
- Be relatable. When someone visits your profile, they will most likely not know you. First impressions count. No one really wants to read a whole stack of words about your experience that may or may not make sense to them. Instead, think about how you can connect with visitors to your profile. Tell them something interesting about your skills, experience or goals. This might take time to figure out, but it’s worth it. Write down five fun facts about yourself and your career, then ask a friend to choose the one that grabs them most. Once you have that – you have something to work with!
